Optimal mental health or mental wellness, is not just the absence of a mental disorder, it’s about optimal mental functioning. The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” This definition refers to being self-aware, achieving individual objectives, dealing effectively with life experiences and contributing to society.
Possessing mental health is about regular maintenance. We go to the gym for our physical health, so what do we do for our mental health? Anyone and everyone can benefit from a better understanding of their own mental health. From understanding our own behaviour, being more self-aware, the desire for self-growth and to develop into more than we are now. We all have goals, values, even a life we aspire to. By choosing to look after ourselves better and prioritise our mental health, we make the first step towards creating a life we love.
Our practice works within a model that implements strategies from a variety of different evidence-based psychological approaches, because different therapy models are going to work for different individuals. We take a boutique approach, where we listen to your needs and we work collaboratively with you, to employ strategies that are going to be effective for you.
